How is the procedure performed?

Neck liposuction is always performed under anesthesia, and there are two ways:

1. Local anesthesia, which numbs only the target area
2. General anesthesia, where the patient is asleep during the procedure

The choice of anesthesia depends on the patient’s comfort, the extent of the procedure, and our team’s recommendation.

A small incision is made behind the chin point to hide it. We then inject fluid to numb the area and shrink blood vessels. A small liposuction cannula is used to remove fat from the neck, chin area, and jawline to sculpt the area. We’ll move the cannula back and forth to break up the fat, which is then suctioned out using a vacuum pump or syringe attached to the cannula.

If a tightening procedure is used, we then use the heat-based device to induce contraction of the skin.

Finally, once the desired amount of fat has been removed and the area has been appropriately contoured, the incisions are closed with sutures. In some cases, the incisions are so small that sutures are not required.

Recovery

Patients typically experience some swelling and bruising, which subsides over the following weeks–around two weeks on average. Most individuals can return to work and other daily activities within a week, although strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks as per our aftercare instructions.

We will supply you with a “jaw bra” compression device to help with swelling. If a tightening procedure is used, it can take several months up to a year to see final results.

The results after a neck liposuction are not immediately visible due to swelling, but as the area heals, patients will notice a more defined neck and jawline. Results can be long-lasting, provided patients maintain a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.
