Dermal filler
Dermal filler injected into the cheeks is a great option for restoring youthful fullness without surgery. As facial fat shifts with age, the vector of the cheeks is no longer up-lifting and attention is drawn to the mouth instead of the eyes. Others prefer a fuller cheek and appreciate the added volume for contour, facial harmony, and balance.
The hyaluronic acid fillers used for cosmetic treatments are similar to the HA in your body tissues, there’s no need for a sensitivity or allergy test before the procedure. The HA used for cosmetic injections is a clear, sterile gel that has been crosslinked more times than our own HA in order to achieve duration.
What are the Advantages?
Advantages include an immediate improvement in your appearance and little to no downtime. Some patients may experience bruising or tenderness for a few days after the procedure. Infection and complications are rare with cheek injections. Additionally, an HA can be reversed using hyaluronidase (a liquid form of an enzyme that dissolves HA) should you not like your result. Patients rarely ask for a reversal, but it’s good to know you can go back to your original cheeks almost immediately if you’re not pleased.
Which type of dermal filler is best for cheeks?
A soft and natural hyaluronic acid (HA) is ideal for patients receiving cheek filler injections for the first time. HA is a substance that the body naturally produces and metabolizes every 24-48 hours. The HA used for cosmetic injections is a clear, sterile gel that has been crosslinked more times than our own HA in order to achieve duration.
The HA will be injected to sculpt your cheeks based on your specific goals. During the procedure you will be given a hand mirror to analyse your look and your provider can make adjustments as needed. Skillful injection will not result in lumps or bumps under the skin post procedure.
How long does cheek filler last?
Dermal filler in the cheek typically lasts between 6-24 months and greatly depends on the brand of HA used, the amount, and the client’s own metabolism. The HA is metabolized over time and your cheeks will slowly return to baseline. It does not change the quality or laxity of the skin after it has metabolized.
How much does cheek filler cost?
Several factors determine the final cost including the amount of product needed, brand of product used, the number of treatment sessions, and if a combination therapy is needed to achieve complete correction. Your provider’s education, experience, and expertise is also a factor. The pricing range is typically ($1,350-$4,050).
What should I expect after treatment?
You may experience some bruising and swelling.
Swelling typically peaks at 48 hours. To minimize swelling, sleep at a 45-degree angle for the first few nights after treatment. Bruises typically resolve within 14 days. There are homeopathic treatments to help resolve bruising faster.
It is normal for the areas injected with a dermal filler to feel firm for the first few days after treatment. Over the next few weeks, the area will soften as the product integrates with your own tissue.
If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores (herpes simplex virus type 1) there is a risk that injectable treatment with dermal filler could trigger reactivation.. Please let your provider know as medications can be prescribed to minimize a recurrence.
